During his time as Hatun as Inca Auqui then spent most of his time in military campaigns of conquest or pacification and even exploration. They called him "Inca traveler" and is credited with founding the city of Quito.
He took as his principal wife his sister Mama Ocllo (namesake of the wife of the first Inca), which had few children. However, he made strong descent between concubines and secondary wives. He died in Chinchero, perhaps poisoned by his wife Chuqui Ocllo.
