When Atahualpa was 16 years old his father decided to leave Cuzco Huayna Capac and go with him and his brother Ninan Cuyuchi north of the empire to command a large army, leaving his son Huascar as INCAP Rantin (deputy) of Cuzco.
In Quito, Huayna Capac, Atahualpa ordered to command of a military campaign to subdue the punaneños (Gulf of Guayaquil) who refused to pay their tributos.14
It was at this residence for more than 10 years with his father as general business and Quisquis Chalcuchímac Atahualpa learned the art of administration and government, the chroniclers described him as someone intellectually "alive reasoning and with great authority."
