Huascar was born in Huascarpata, and hence its name. He was appointed as successor by the apricots (nobles) from Cusco, but not by his own father who died along with his legitimate successor. In the decision of the apricots influenced Huascar had experience in governing a city as it was important Cuzco.
Government
During the beginning of his government, all recognized him as Zapa Inca, naming his brother Atahualpa INCAP Rantin (deputy) of Quito and its surrounding areas. This request was accepted by Huascar.
Many were those who claimed the throne of Huascar, including his brother Atauchi Cusi, who with the help of his brothers two generals attacked the army of Huascar. This attempt failed and Atauchi Cusi was sentenced to death for treason.
Given these facts Huascar began to distrust of all, sometimes killing suspects without hard evidence. Perhaps even suffered from schizophrenia.

Once taken Cuzco, Atahualpa, through his generals, tried to erase every trace of Huascar perceivable killing his family, servants and supporters. And the northern ethnic groups that made up the army of Atahualpa tried to erase all traces of Huayna Capac and Tupac Yupanqui who even burned his mummy.
